As an important carrier for information spread, the British and American newspapers become an important way for people to know the international news, practically the news about China. However, news report reflects the ideology of a certain social superstructure and serves the interests of a certain class. In news reports, journalists will report the news according to their own countries’ interests subject to their own values. The traditional translation study highlighted the transformation between two languages and its focus centralized on the linguistic level. American translator Lefevere studied translation from the angle of culture, Lefevere elaborated manipulation theory and the related elements systematically. He highlighted that translation was manipulated by ideology, poetics and patronage. Based on Lefevere’s manipulation theory, this paper studies and analyzes how ideology and poetics factors influence news E-C translation by comparing and analyzing the original news texts and translated news texts about China chosen from British and American newspapers. The result of this study shows that news E-C translation cannot be kept away from ideology and poetics factor. The ideology and poetics factors influence the English news texts the translator chooses to translate and the translation strategies adopted by translator. Therefore, the translators should pay attention to the influences exerted by non-linguistic factors in addition to the basic news information dissemination during the process of news C-E translation.
