Investigation Of The Chinese Language Teaching Mode Of Interactive Distance Learning At The Confucius Institute Of The University Of Kansas

With the development of modern education technology, a new structure for interactive distance teaching has been developed. This method is significantly different from traditional face-to-face teaching. An advantage of interactive distance teaching is that it is not constrained by issues of time or distance. Students will learn from exposure to network broadcasts received on remote devices. This will significantly benefit students with physical disabilities or those students living in more remote areas. With this method the students are connected with their teachers through the Internet. This dissertation will examine the interactive distance teaching technique as implemented by the Confucius Institute of China Language Program, at the University of Kansas (KU).This dissertation is comprised of five chapters. Chapter one is an introduction to the interactive distance learning system. Research on the subject will be reviewed from sources at home and abroad and an introduction will be presented on reasons for choosing the topic of distance learning. Chapter two will be an analysis of interactive distance teaching characteristics and application at K.U. In chapter three there will be an evaluation of the interactive distance teaching mode as practiced by the Confucius Institute at the K.U. campus. Chapter four is a discussion on the degree of satisfaction and strategies for improvement in the K.U. Chinese language program. The fifth and final chapter will be a brief summary of this dissertation with points on remaining problem issues.
