A Report On The Translation Of A Case Study In Payment Reform To Support Optimal Pediatric Asthma Care

This report is based on my transition of A Case Study in Payment Reform to Support Optimal Pediatric Asthma Care at Center for Health Policy at Brookings from English to Chinese. This report demonstrates optimal pediatric asthma care and the payment reforms which support asthma care to Chinese readers in detail.The introduction, case study and translation practice conclusion are concluded in this report. The introduction concludes the background, characteristics and the preparation of the task. The chapter two, case study, is the main part of the paper, aiming at four problems, namely the accurate translation of the vocabulary, the translation of passive sentences and the translation of attributive clauses according to Chinese expression, and the maintaining of medicine text style. The author concludes and analyzes the four problems to give relative resolutions. When solving the problems of vocabulary, the author gives the answers to medical specialization of common words, the translation of the policy and polysemy from English to Chinese. The author concludes four methods of translating English sentences in passive voice. They are: converting the passive voice into the Chinese active voice; keeping the passive voice structure unchanged; and converting the passive structure voice into subjectless sentences. Through analysis, the paper has concluded that the methods adopted in attributive clauses are: translating the attributive clauses into pre-modifiers; translating attributive clauses after nouns; mixture; and translating the attributive clauses into an adverbial phrases. And in the end of chapter two, the author analyzes the text style through expertise of medicine and thesis. The chapter three is the summary of the translation practice from the aspects of translation experience and inspiration of future study.
