Relationship Between Pubertal Timing,Parenting Style And Emotional Problems Of Junior High School Students

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the pubertal timing and emotional problems of junior high school students, and to expoler the mediation effect of parenting style in this relationship.Methods:Using the Pubertal Development Scale, s-EMBU-C,Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorder and Depression Self-rating Scale for Chilren to1314 junior high school students at 3 junior high school in Hunan province.Results:(1)There were singificant differences exist on the junior high school students with emotional problems at pubertal timing,junior high girls at early pubertal timing have higher scores than later maturing and other ordinary,junior high boys at late pubertal timing have higher scores than early maturing and other ordinary.(2)In terms of the parenting style as rejection and over-protection,students in anxiety group have higher scores than the countrol group.(3)Father’s rejection and mother’s over-protection had mediation effect on the relationship between late pubertal timing and anxiety at the junior high boys,mother’s rejection had mediation effect on the late pubertal timing and depressive;mother’s rejection and father’s over-protection had mediation effect on the early or late pubertal timing and anxiety at the junior high girls.Conclusion:(1)The junior high school students whoes pubertal timing are associated with emotional problems, early maturing girls produce more emotional problems than the peers,late maturing boys produce more emotional problems than the peers.(2)The junior high school students whoes parenting style are associated with emotional problems,parents always use methods of rejection and over-protecion to make the junior high school students produce emotional problems.(3)Pubertal timing is closely related to the parenting style.(4)Parenting style had mediation effect on the pubertal timing and emotional problems of junior high school students.
