Not Impossible-Mechanical Drawing Into Painting

This paper compares the forms and functions between mechanic graphs and drawings, also, the differences were illustrated objectively. Though mechanic graphs and drawings are significantly different in type, character, form and function, they do share something in common after analyzed in detail. Mechanic graphs and drawings share the same pursuit for the flatness, scientificity, and the coordination of whole and part. The existence and development of Ruler painting not only confirms the similarities between Mechanic graphs and drawings, but also verifies the possibilities of transformation in form and function. After analyzing the works of Da Vinci, Marcel Duchamp and Fernand Leger, the possibility becomes more explicit. Thus this paper has its own innovation. The possibility of transforming mechanic graphs into drawing was demonstrated after defining the possibility and uniqueness of “choosing” mechanic graphs and transforming it into drawings. This “choosing” method refers to endless choosing which brings not only the clarity and existed difference but also the track of changing. This specific method supports every segment of this paper’s practice and forms theoretical cognition. Endless choosing will continuously support the practice of creation and enrich the performance of the content of drawing.
