Eve Tracking Application Research On Landscape Architecture And Tourist Map

Environmental psychology is the study of overall relationship between behavior, experience, architecture and natural environment. Eye tracking as an effective mean of environmental psychology research, has been widely used abroad.This article attempts to introduce the tourist map of city park into eye tracking experiment. We choose Citadel Park in Gent (Belgium) as object, using fixed eye tracker to capture and record subject’s eye movement and fixation point on the park tourist map and landscape pictures, and try to probe the factors that influence their choice of tour route and the relationship between tourist map and the evaluation of landscape.From the analysis, we can see that, subjects mainly depend on the location of different attractions on the tourist map to choose their way. The entrance of park always catches people’s attention. Eye’s search area on tourist map shares the same tendency with viewing time and the final choice of route has obvious consistency with fixation area. Besides, the more landscape pictures they see, the more scenery spots they choose to go pass by. Result also shows that, people love water and open space. Landscape element, such as sculpture has an important role in wayfinding. We should also enhance the definition of service facilities and guiding systems. People’s judgement about park is related to the design of tourist map. We hope the conclusions can be used for guiding the landscape architecture and environmental construction of park, and on the other hand, giving ideas about how to make more user-friendly tourist map.With development of science, eye tracking technology is constantly improving at the same time. But eye tracker has not been widely used in domestic research field. It is a new tool for us. We can use it more as an experimental method for landscape architecture and environmental psychology study in the future.
