Firstly, the project focuses on Chinese-English translation of the Report on the Work of the Government in 2014, which was delivered by Chinese premier Li Keqiang at the Second Session of the Twelfth National People’s Congress on March 5,2014. Secondly, the project presents difficulties in translating neologisms and Chinese idioms. Many expressions appearing in the Report on the Work of the Government in 2014 are related to particular Chinese culture. What’s more, equivalent expressions cannot be found in the target language. The project’s difficulties mainly lie in translating culture-characteristic expressions. The difficulties chiefly manifest two aspects:difficulty in translating neologisms and difficulty in translating Chinese idioms. In accordance with the translation compensation theory, the author rightly translates the culture-characteristic expressions in the Report on the Work of the Government in 2014 under the guidance of translation compensation theory:amplification, generalization and specification.
