With the development of economic globalization, more and more Chinese companies are going abroad to get involved in the international competition. Thus a quality translation of a company’s profile has been increasingly significant in its success of international trade. At present, many English versions of Chinese company profiles have been plagued by mistranslations in linguistic, grammatical and functional aspects. This not only impedes the effective communication, but also does harm to the image of Chinese companies.Up to now, there has been little domestic research on the translation of Chinese company profile. Those articles concerned mostly list the places of mistranslation, and they have rarely attempted any further research on it. This thesis employs skopos theory as the theoretical framework. It analyzes almost 56 samples to elucidate mistranslation. These samples are collected from 40 Chinese company profiles (include its English version) and 20 English company profiles. Firstly, the author introduces the objective and significance of the thesis. Then in the part of the literature review, the author introduces the research situation home and abroad. In Part 3,it comes the comparison and contrast about similarities and differences between Chinese and English company profiles. Base on the Skopos Theory, the author analyzes the mistranslations of Chinese company profiles, includes some Shaanxi company profiles in Part 4; these mistranslations are classified under the three rules of Skopos Theory. After that, the author will also analyze some cultural mistranslations. The lack of understanding of the cultural background lead to cultural mistranslation. These mistranslations influence the effective transmission of information, which impedes the realization of the expected functions of the text.In view of the above mistranslations and functional translation theory, this thesis pointed out that company profile translation should take the target language readers into consideration. Under the premise that the substantive information will not be damaged, the translator can make appropriate adjustments to the translation through methods of amplification, omission, conversion and adaptation. And, invite western people to review the translation after translating. The author hopes that this paper can bring some inspiration to the translation practice and teaching of company profile, so as to improve the quality of English translation of company profile and increase the competitiveness of Chinese company in the globe market.
