In the post financial crisis era. with the world economy changing gradually from the industrial age to the knowledge age, global culture industry and international cultural trade develop well and have a great trend. Culture is increasingly becoming an important source of national cohesion and creativity. As an important part of international trade, cultural trade has brought an endless economic benefit to a country or region. It also helps to increase the competitiveness of the cultural industry. Therefore, the cultural trade has become an important factor in the competition of comprehensive national strength. China has a long history and culture tradition, with the development of the cultural industry of the inherent advantages and great potential. However, compared with Japan in East Asia, the international competitiveness of China’s cultural trade is weak, and even becoming seriously deficit in many core cultural products and cultural services, which is not consistent with the image of China’s trading powers.In recent years, China’s cultural industry has made some achievements, however, it still faces the problems of cultural trade deficit and weak competitiveness. Therefore, it is urgent for our country to study the problem of cultural trade, especially in the process of transforming from a large trading country to a powerful country. In Asian countries, Japan is one of the earlier and more successful countries in the development of cultural trade. As early as 1990s, the Japanese government has made the "culture of the country" strategy as a national policy, and then cultural industry has become one of the pillar industries, which are the future development of Japanese economy and economic prosperity. Although China has carried out many cultural policies in recent years, it has not achieved the desired effect, which requires us to analyze the problem of China’s cultural industry. Through a comparative analysis of multiple perspectives with Japan, we can see that our country’s cultural industry and the development of cultural trade, has a lot of shortcomings. On the road of the development of China’s cultural trade, how to leam from the successful experience of the development of Japanese culture and trade, and lead the development of China’s cultural trade is the right path, still need more attention and research.This paper includes six parts:The first part is the introduction. This part briefly describes the background, significance of the article, and the domestic and foreign research status of cultural trade. Finally it introduces the framework of the paper, the innovation points and shortcomings of this paper.The second part is about some related definitions and the theories of cultural trade. Followed the meaning, characteristics and classification of culture trade, which identify the definition scale of the text are the scale economy theory, intra industry trade theory and strategic theory.The third part is the comparison of the cultural trade development between Chinese and Japanese. First of all, the different between China and Japan of the domestic cultural industry, then followed their comparison of cultural products and cultural services. The final of this part is the international status and the gap of cultural trade between the Chinese and Japanese. In this part, the paper makes a full analysis of the data, and from different angles and industries to update the data of China and Japan’s cultural trade, which makes the paper more convincing.The fourth part is the comparative analysis of the competitiveness of Chinese and Japanese cultural trade. This part uses the static and dynamic index of China and Japan’s cultural competitiveness, also with the ITT to analyze the origin of cultural competitiveness, finally to make a conclusion of the competitiveness conditions between two countries. On the basis of a large number of data from the third part, this part uses a variety of index to measure the competitiveness, which makes it more objective to show the international competitiveness between China and Japan’s cultural trade gap, and for the post text analysis of the gap between the reasons and suggestions to provide direction.The fifth part is the analysis of the general reasons for the cultural trade competitiveness differences between China and Japan. This chapter explains mainly from four angles, which are the political, economic, social and cultural, technological environment aspects. This part is a more comprehensive analysis of the Chinese and Japanese cultural trade gap from the general reasons, meaning to find out the shortcomings of the development of China’s cultural trade.The sixth part is the Enlightenment of Japanese cultural trade development experience to china. On the basis of the successful experience of Japanese cultural trade and the shortcomings of China’s cultural trade, this paper puts forward some suggestions on the basis of the analysis of the policies, products, capital and talents. The suggestions mainly include to study the successful experience of Japan, to build a good system and policy system, to broaden the financing channels, to provide strong financial support for the development of cultural industries, to pay attention to innovation, and constantly improve the added value of cultural products and services, to carry out the implementation of brand and marketing strategy, and to strengthen international cultural trade talents training.
