Human beings communicate through two channels,verbal communication and non-verbal communication,both of which are indispensible. Non-verbal communication refers to those means that don’t belong to the category of speech but is used consciously or subconsciously with verbal communication in order to best reach the communicative goals. In communication, people pay great attention to verbal communication but ignore the importance of non-verbal communication. Actually, in our daily lives, non-verbal communication plays an important role, and among which, body language is vital. In the history of traditional language, the importance of body language equals to sound language, or we can even say body language in some cases is more important than sound language. Now in our modern society, body language should still not be ignored. Most researches about body language in the area of non-verbal communication mainly focus on the Communicative behaviors of western countries using English as their mother tongue. The research contents mainly contain the basic theoretical knowledge, the comparison of b China-Japan body language. However, the systematic research on the differences of China-Japan body language is much less.According to the relevant theories and research methods of contrastive linguistics, this paper makes a comparison of China-Japan body language. The body language in the materials is the most common one that can be seen in the daily China-Japan communication. This paper contains five parts.The first part firstly raise a question to explain the research contents and significance of this text, then introduces the previous researches about it both at home and aboard.The second part explains the definition、classification、characteristics and function of body language.The third part is comparison and contrast in China-Japan body language in terms of postures,gestures,facial exprssions and touch.The fourth part is the applications of body language in teaching Chinese to Japanese students.The fifth part is about the advices of the fifth part.This paper lists a large number of examples to describe the similarities and differences between the Chinese and Japanese body languages. By combining the different culture value can we get some reasons of their differences. Besides, we also consider the applications of body language in teaching Chinese to Japanese students so as to conclude some implications. The purpose of this paper is to let people pay great attention to non-verbal communication and body language, to let people be interested in the differences of non-verbal language and body language and to improve the intercultural communicative competence of human beings, so that the Japanese students can better understand Chinese and learn Chinese language and culture.
