Objective:This study was designed to investigate the effects of the status of moral self(positive, negative) and narrative character type(positive character,the middle character, villain) on readers’ emotional experience. Mainly on the threshold of moral self start and subthreshold start for different levels of research and validation.Method:Study one, carried on college students, consists of two parts. The search referring to the moral self start paradigm of Reed et al.(2007) and Ligu et al.(2013)to supraliminally prim the moral self status of participants on a 2×3 between subjects experimental design.And this study adopts the narrative characters in the story of Krakowiak’s study, and measures the subjects’ emotional experience with the PANAS scale.Study two adopts the word paradigm, subliminaljy prim the subjects’ moral self with the Epreme2.0 software procedure and starts character operation after the emotional self-assessment.Results : Study 1 showed that:(1)Moral self under supraliminal perception, and different narrative character types both cause significant main effect to the participants’ emotion experience;(2)There are a significant interaction to the participants’ negative emotion experience by Moral self under supraliminal perception and different narrative character types.Study 2 showed that:(1)Moral self under subliminal perception,and different narrative character types both cause significant main effect to the participants’ emotion experience;(2)There are a significant interaction to the participants’ emotion experience by Moral self under conscious perception and different narrative character types.Conclusion:(1) the moral self has some some effects on subjects emotional experience, and the subjects under positive moral self condition have more positive emotional experience.(2) the types of narrative figures have some effects on the subjects’ emotional experience, and the subjects of the positive character have the most optimistic emotional experience, followed by an intermediate character and the villain making the least active.(3) The moral self and narrative character types have some combined effects on the subjects’ emotion experience. And the subjects of the positive character under a positive moral self status have a more optimistic emotion experience. The subjects of intermediate character and the villain under a negative moral self status have a more optimistic emotion experience, however, subjects experienced more positive emotion when compared to the positive status.
