Kan Tai-keung is an internationally outstanding graphic designer. His works take characteristics such as concise form, rich connotation, and profound thought. He attaches great importance to explore local cultural resources, takes ink painting and calligraphy, auspicious patterns, and folklore elements as major creation elements, and blends them with modern Western design ideas to create works with intense national features. The novel realization and creative design, which are of great intelligence and beauty, not only inherit but also innovate local cultural elements in modern graphic design, which exactly embodies his design aesthetic and style.The thesis analyzes Kan Tai-keung’s graphic design works in the following ways. Firstly, considering the current situation of the application of traditional elements to graphic design, it tries to interpret the utilization of traditional elements in his typical works and summarize his techniques of expression and aesthetic characteristics. Secondly, it attempts to dig philosophical sentiment reflected in his design works and interpret the superiority of Chinese traditional elements and their future development. By comprehensively analyzing his special design skills and ideas and researching the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional elements in graphic design, the thesis endeavors to give some advice for creating more graphic works with national cultural features and combining traditional resources with modern resources, and to enrich both graphic design theory and practice.
