Note-taking is an indispensable part of consecutive interpreting, serving as a bridge between listening and interpreting. It can compensate for the limitedness of interpreters' short-term memory by helping interpreters remember what speakers have said so as to ensure the quality of interpreting. But in some cases, especially when interpreting relatively fast speeches, interpreters can be bothered or distracted by note-taking,which is very common for interpreters either as students or as practitioners. This thesis starts with the role of note-taking in consecutive interpreting. When interpreting relatively fast speeches, interpreters tend to encounter note-taking related problems such as the lack of content or logic. In order to maximize the positive role of note-taking in consecutive interpreting and tackling the special challenges imposed by relatively fast speeches, interpreters should have coping strategies in listening,note-taking and interpreting respectively. In the process of listening, interpreters should pay special attention to the logic of the speech and extract major points from the speech. In the process of note-taking,interpreters should have a personal system of taking notes and start noting only after complete comprehension. In the process of interpreting, interpreters should stick to the stance of speakers and mobilize their background knowledge to fill in any understanding gap.Only by practicing more and having coping strategies to deal with relatively fast speeches can interpreters maximize the positive role of note-taking in consecutive interpreting.
