A Practice Report On The Simulated English To Chinese Consecutive Interpreting Of The Speech "Ccaring For People Is A Global Responsibility"

The material for the simulated consecutive interpreting practice comes from an English speech �Caring for People is a Global Responsibility� made by Delano Lewis at Boston College.As there are many factors that influence the quality of the simulated E-C consecutive interpreting,the thesis aims to summarize those factors in this practice to have a better understanding of consecutive interpreting and help interpreter's to do well in future practices.On the basis of the summary,the author puts forward some relevant strategies and suggestions which may be of some referential value for other interpreters' CI practices as well.In addition to a brief introduction and a conclusion,the thesis is divided into four parts.After giving the objective,background,the significance of this report,the author presents in the first chapter the general background of the simulated consecutive interpreting.It has two parts which cover an overview of the relevant global issues and the studies of speeches on the relevant international issues respectively.The second chapter mainly introduces the process of the simulated consecutive interpreting including the preparation of the relevant materials,interpreting theories,personnel assignment,the implementation of the simulated process,the emergency handling and the SCI assessment.The third chapter mainly sums up and analyzes three kinds of problems such as misinterpretation and information loss in the process of the simulated consecutive interpreting.The last chapter puts forward some countermeasures to the problems on the basis of the relevant interpreting theories.In the conclusion part,the author points out that in spite of such unavoidable influencing factors,interpreters can try their best to reduce mistakes by consciously employing some interpreting theories.In order to do this,interpreters need to take a sincere attitude and constantly hold a firm belief to improve themselves.It is hoped that this thesis can be some help for other interpreters in their future English to Chinese consecutive interpreting.
