Flower and bird painting is an important and huge part in the traditional Chinese painting histo ry, which is a completely independent genre. It’s totally different from the Western realistic pa inting in aesthetic concept and aesthetic taste. Song Dynasty flower and bird painting had mad e great progress in Chinese court painting system, which is promoted officially. Nowadays, So ng Dynasty flower and bird painting still has indelible influence and directs the contemporary Chinese painting, and pursued by contemporary Chinese painting for the plentiful taste, subtle interest and rich thought of it. With the development of technology, information and globalizat ion of modern life, contemporary Chinese painters are trying to find a way to explore and bala nce the view of value and life in Song Dynasty flower and bird painting. This research aims to show the beauty of nature and life in Song Dynasty flower and bird painting to the readers logi cally and persuadably by analyzing deeply the existing western composition theory, iconology and semiotics. This research purposes to reproduce the imagery of Song Dynasty flower and bi rd painting, and to inherit taste, charm and thought in this kind of painting by utilizing the anal ysis of the schema and spirit clearly. The goal of this paper is to develop the ancestral wisdom of Song Dynasty flower and bird painting in contemporary Chinese painting preferably.
