This report is based on the simulated interpretation of one speech on the Seventh Session of the Northeast Asian Youth Entrepreneurship Development Forum, delivered by the president of Jilin University, Sir Li Yuanyuan. The Northeast Asia Youth Entrepreneur Development Forum is an influential forum and also an essential part of the China-Northeast Asia Expo. The author simulated the interpreting site of Sir Li Yuanyuan’s speech and some problems were found during the interpretation.Short pauses of the speaker and long and complex sentences in the source language resulted in many problems in the process of simulation, which can be generally divided into two types: information loss and misinterpretation. Information loss mainly focused on long and difficult sentences and some information with cultural characteristics. Based on the analysis of these problems and with the guidance of the theory of “Interpretive School”, the author put forward reconstruction and explanation strategies to solve the problem of information loss. Additionally, misinterpretation which occurred in the simulated interpretation could be basically divided into three aspects: mistakes on English expression, technical terms and numbers. In the process of solving these problems, the author applied the Effort Model proposed by Gile to come up with some countermeasures. It is expected that this report can provide some help for other interpreters in the future.
