As an efficient way of interpreting, simultaneous interpreting has been widely applied to international conferences and China plays an increasingly important role in international conferences, which boosts the great needs of simultaneous interpreters. However, simultaneous interpreting is such a difficult job that demands strong professional quality of interpreters. If the interpreter is weak in language competence or failed to use appropriate interpreting strategies, the automatically processing of information would be lessened and much more time and memory capacity would be occupied, which may produce unsatisfying interpreting results. Therefore, it is of vital importance for interpreters to be proficient in some interpreting theories and apply them properly in interpreting activities.By adopting interpretive theory and the triangle model as the guiding theory, the thesis aims to analyze the difficulties and measures of simultaneous interpreting in order to find out the ways to improve interpreting quality based on the case study of remarks by former vice president Richard Bruce Cheney in Fudan University in terms of words, sentences and discourse. Finally, the thesis reaches a conclusion that it is of great importance to convey the meaning of speaker and assure the equivalent information and reflections of target language audiences with source language audiences. The triangle mode of interpretive theory can provide a strong theoretical support for interpreters to understand, reorganize and express the source speech and effectively convey it to the target audience.
