A Report On Simultaneous Interpreting At 2019 Chengdu Boiling Life Festival From The Perspective Of Interpretative Theory

Cultural traditions and national spirits are deeply rooted in the blood of each nation,which have always been great spiritual forces for national development and national rejuvenation.Improving cultural soft power is an important way to enhance the country’s core competitiveness.2019 Chengdu Boiling Life Festival resolves to provide young citizens with a place of dense cultural knowledge for cultural salons,creative workshops,trendy brands,and art experiences.And this practice report is based on the author’s simultaneous interpreting practice in the forum of Chengdu Boiling Life Festival in June 2019.Interpretive Theory is applied to guide the practice and analysis.According to the triangle model of Interpretive Theory,interpreting consists of three stages:comprehension,deverbalization and re-expression.The comprehension of the source language requires sufficient cognitive knowledge.Deverbalization requires rich cognitive environment and analysis ability.The re-expression stage also requires the interpreter to have strong ability to analyze source language and build a common cognitive environment for the audience.Based on the simultaneous interpreting practice,the difficulties encountered can be summarized in three aspects: difficulties caused by insufficient cognitive knowledge,cognitive environment and analytical ability.Interpreting strategies are put forward under the guidance of triangle model in Interpretive Theory.With regard to difficulties in cognitive knowledge,the author needs to improve the proficiency in both Chinese and English,as well as the accumulation of encyclopedic knowledge and professional knowledge.For difficulties in cognitive environment,amplification,substitution and paraphrasing are effective strategies to deal with words with polysemy and pun to bring the audience artistic effects with a balanced structure,conveying the speaker’s intentions to the maximum.As for analysis ability incompetence,to provide better interpretation services,the author needs to strengthen analytical ability by making predictions and judgments based on the context and speaker’s speech logic.Through the practice and analysis,the report is expected to provide some references for simultaneous interpreting of cultural and creative industry,enrich field materials and shed some light on relevant studies.
