With the development of cross-cultural communication in all kinds of fields, translated works are no longer limited to a few major themes and genres, but involve every aspect of life. The abundant translated works have great significance to the cross-cultural communication between source language and target language.Katharina Reiss, the German translation theorist, proposed the theory of text types in the early 1970s, which, based on the function of language, classifies texts into three major types, i.e. informative text, expressive text, and operative text. Different texts have different translation strategies. This source text, i.e. Moon Journals belongs to a compound text, which has both informative and expressive function. This book mainly focuses on introducing teaching techniques in and outside the class, which can be used to arouse students’ interest and to enlighten children on writing and drawing. During the translation process, the author has met some difficulties:firstly, the translation of technical terms and culture-loaded words; secondly, the translation of sentences with rhetorical devices; thirdly, the translation of poems. Under the guidance of the theory of text types and the corresponding translation strategies, the author has adopted literal translation, free translation, amplification and other translation methods in order to make the translation faithful to source text both in content and in form.Due to the characteristics of source text, this report illustrates the use of different translation strategies in different texts, and provides a reference for the translation of compound texts. Besides, the author hopes this paper could introduce foreign education methods to domestic educators so as to improve their teaching approaches.
