“Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students is a major international chinese event sponsored by the Hanban.Since the start of the first competition in 2002,has successfully held 14 competitions.The number of participants and wide range of influence make it uniquely in the world,so we must pay enough attention to it.It is necessary to see contestants’ chinese learning and mastering situation from their performances in the game.We can regard it as a mirror to measure the international education of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.We can see how is the teaching going,succeed or fail,from learners. As a very important group of Chinese learning,contestants,of course,can not be ignored.This paper takes the 13 th and the 14 th competitions for example,to research contestants’ language using situation,who come to China to participate in the semi-finals and finals.So we can see some problems and some places need to be improved in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Specifically,this paper can be divided into the following sections:The first part is the introduction,mainly introduces the significance,current situation,research methods and innovations of this paper.The second part introduces the development of “Chinese Bridge” Competition and Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students,explaining the characteristics of the object of this study and the reason why author choose it.Because compared with the previous games,last two competitions have presented a trend,that is the competition pay more and more attention to contestants’ comprehensive abilities and practical abilities to use Chinese.The third part author analyzes the language using situation in different stages by contestants.By the study,the author finds that in the semi-finals and finals of the two links,the contestants have a completely different language expression.From the perspective of style,contestants use speech style in the semi-finals,while use conversation style in the finals.The performance of contestants in sound,vocabulary,grammar and other aspects is influenced by different occasions and contents.Contestants use some idioms,common sayings and figures of speech in making the speech.Their language reflects the characteristics of shorter sentences,flexible structure,free word order in oral expression when they finishing outdoor tasks.At the same time,there are many errors in the oral communications.The fourth part author combines the contents with performances of contestants in the competition.We can see some deficiencies in contestants’ Chinese language learning.For example,they are not good at pronunciation and do not pay enough attention to the rules of grammar,etc.In view of these problems,as well as the examination of the contestants’ various aspects of abilities in competition,the author talks about the enlightenment of the “Chinese Bridge” competition to teaching Chinese as a foreign language in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, Chinese character, culture teaching and so on.The last part is the conclusion of this paper.
