| The author participated in an online translation project organized by United Nations Environment Programme (hereafter UNEP) China Office in April 2015 and was assigned for translating part of Chapter Two of the UNEP report District Energy in Cities: Unlocking the Potential of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. With reference to this translating practice, the author aims to find out translation strategies that can be used in such kind of translation projects from the perspective of logical thinking. After analyzing the features of the source text and working on the major problems encountered during the translating process, the author has figured out the role of logical thinking in translation by reviewing the relevant theories both home and abroad. To demonstrate that logical thinking performs various functions in interpreting the source text precisely, in expressing the idea of the source text logically and embodying the rhetoric effects of the source text effectively in the target language, this project report is made up of five chapters as follows.Chapter One consists of a detailed description of the UNEP translation project, including its background and translation requirements. The significance of this project report is also touched upon in this chapter.Chapter Two gives a clear picture of the whole translation procedures. Meanwhile, the characteristics of the source text are elaborated and the main problems are summarized for further discussion.Chapter Three explores the role of logical thinking in translation by reviewing relevant studies on the application of logical thinking in translation.Chapter Four discusses translation strategies from the perspective of logical thinking. Applying logic laws to avoid illogical expressions, using logical thinking to improve translation quality and to select translation techniques is exhibited in detail in this chapter.Chapter Five is the conclusion where major findings are summed up and some limitations are provided with. |
