During the internship in Yantai Foreign Affairs and Overseas Affairs Office, the author acted as an escort interpreter for the team from Mackay Australia, which participated in the 2015 Winter Camp for Foreign Teenagers of Chinese Origin to Seek Roots. Accordingly, this report is based on the interpreting practice. This report includes four chapters. Chapter One is task description, including task background and requirements of client. Chapter Two is task process, which mainly discusses escort interpreting, pre-interpreting preparation and interpreting process respectively. In this chapter, the author briefly introduces escort interpreting and makes relevant pre-interpreting preparations, and then generally summarizes the interpreting process. Chapter Three is case analysis. Based on problems and difficulties of this interpreting practice, analysis and reflection are made in terms of three aspects: roles of interpreter in escort interpreting, handling difficulties in understanding source language and handling difficulties in expressing in target language. Chapter Four summarizes this interpreting practice and puts forward enlightenment for future study and practice. From the above description and analysis, conclusions could be arrived as follows: Firstly, based on the theory of interpreters’ subjectivity consciousness proposed by Ren Wen, interpreters should effectively and actively promote communication through acting not only as the gatekeeper of cultural differences, but also as the mediator of communication; Secondly, noisy condition, fast speed of delivery and density of information are typical difficulties influencing the quality of understanding during escort interpreting. Hence, interpreters should always keep constant and active listening during the whole process and adopt certain strategies such as grasping main ideas and properly asking the speaker to stop or repeat;. Thirdly, the noisy condition of escort interpreting requires interpreters to always keep a loud voice so as to make every listener understand the target language. The urgency of escort interpreting especially during the touring gives interpreters no time to think and then fully convey the source language. Therefore in order to keep the communication going, interpreters have to use strategies like generalization and explanation to immediately express in target language when encountering dense information or redundant information of source language, or difficulty of failing to find appropriate equivalence in target language.
