A Practice Report On An Escort Interpreting For A Korean Exchange Student Visiting Jilin University

In recent decades,the role of interpreter as a link or bridge of intercultural communication becomes increasingly prominent,and the demand for professional and experienced interpreters is also surging in the language service market.But neither expertise nor useful experience comes easy.They can only be accumulated from practices.They toned to figure out,analyze and cope with one's own deficiencies in each of interpreting performances.The present report shows some reflections on the deficiencies of an escort interpreting task for a Korean exchange student visiting Jilin University.During the task,the interpreter has conveyed information both from English to Chinese and Chinese to English.Based on the self-evaluation and the client's feedback,the author has summarized three typical problems occurred in the highest frequency,such as inappropriate use of pauses,misinterpreting cultural-loaded expressions and logic confusion.Then the causes of these deficiencies are analyzed and some possible coping strategies are provided.In general,the report includes four chapters besides a introduction and a conclusion.Chapter One and Two introduces the task background and the interpreter's preparation,interpreting process and evaluation for the task.Chapter Three focuses on illustrating and analysis of the three typical problems detected,and Chapter Four provides some possible coping strategies for these problems respectively.As a referential material for further practices,the author analyzed each problem in details and proposed some possible coping strategies.The author hopes to draw lessons from this practice,in order to perform better in future tasks.
