This report is a practice report on consecutive interpreting simulation of PBS Top Talk from English to Chinese—a case study of the top talk on European refugees.As a major form of interpretation, consecutive interpreting is widely used on various occasions, especially in top talk programs, which needs study and discussion. In this report, the author describes the interpreting task and chooses some problems during the interpreting process. On the basis of Daniel Gile’s Effort Model, the author analyzes the cases and puts forward the problem-solving strategies, so as to explore the application of consecutive interpreting in top talk programs.The author illustrates the problems and cause analysis in the report, for example, some problems with listening comprehension and note-taking, memory deficiency; the author also comes up with the problem-solving strategies, namely Gile’s Effort Model and its guiding significance to consecutive interpreting. The application of this Effort Model in consecutive interpreting mainly includes three parts: analytical listening effort, note-taking and note-reading skills and the memory task effort. |
