The speeches of China’s leaders on Boao Forum for Asia play a significant role in establishing a good international image of China. So it is very important to do a good job in the interpretation of China’s leaders’speeches.Interpretative Theory is the most important reference which has been widely accepted by interpretation. Interpretative Theory believes that the essence of interpretation explains the real meaning without the constraint of the external form of language, it is deverbalization. Interpreters should pursue the original value and the effect of the equivalence of translation. This thesis is a study on the interpreting speeches of Chinese leaders on Boao Forum for Asia under the guidance of Interpretative Theory. It aims to study the strategies of Chinese-specific expressions, idioms and non-subject sentences in the speeches of China’s leaders on Boao Forum for Asia. In the speech of China’s leaders, languages are concise, accurate and precise and the views are objective. In terms of the structure, there is a fixed opening and closing, speech content also has certain regularity. However, in the speeches of China’s leaders, because of unique culture and national conditions of China and the differences between Chinese and English languages, there will be a lot of Chinese-specific expressions, idioms and non-subject sentences in interpreting. Foreign audiences without Chinese culture background information are hard to understand these words and non-subject sentences. So these are the difficulties for interpreters. To solve these difficulties, this thesis summarizes some strategies such as literal translation, free translation, simply repletion and supplement subject. In this way, this thesis hopes to help interpreters to deal with these difficulties freely and the interpreters can play a better role as a bridge in communication so as to improve the quality of interpretation.
