A Report On Simulated Interpretation For President Xi’s Keynote Speech At Boao Forum For Asia

It’s a simulated practice report of Chinese to English consecutive interpretation,of which the content is chosen from President Xi’s keynote speeches at BFA in 2015 and 2018.BFA is an important platform for exchanges and cooperation among countries.Meanwhile,the interpretation quality of President’s speeches can directly reflect the country’s image.President Xi’s speeches involved various aspects,and included some three-character and four-character cases of words,classical Chinese literature and proverbs featured with Chinese characteristics.Due to the fact that Chinese and English belong to different linguistic systems,we can’t find most of these words’ counterparts in English.What’s more,due to the lack of understanding of Chinese culture and national situation,foreign guests will easily misunderstand the expressions of these words.So,the exploration and research of the English interpretation of these words is of great importance.They will make negative influence on the quality of the interpretation if interpreter fails to give appropriate version.The interpreter found that under the guidance of Interpretative Theory,with the usage of concrete translation methods(especially literal translation and free translation)and translation techniques which are subject to these methods(including addition,omission,shift,combination,inference and so on),she can solve out this problem,and thus let guests have an all-directional understanding toward these words,to achieve communicative purpose of translation,avoid cultural losses,and provide some references for interpreters who will engage in such text interpretation in the future.
