The study aims to investigate the subjective well-being of the music learning elderly, its influence factors and how they work. 617 participates were sampled and 6 people were interviewed from 10 groups of retired elders aged above 50 years old in Guangzhou, Beijing and Tianjin, and were measured through the MUNSH, the EPQ and the questionnaires designed by the researcher.Results: The findings reveal that the subjective well-being of the old people who learn music is higher than that of the old people who don’t. The result of a stratified stepwise regression analysis is that one’s health condition, dwelling condition, the length of time spent in learning music, and personality are the significant factors that influence the subjective well-being of the old people who learn music. All these factors can explain 31.4% of the total variance.Conclusions:1. The elderly who learn music have had a higher level of the subjective well-being than those who don’ t learn music.2. The elderly with better health, good dwelling conditions, a longer period of music learning,and high scores of Extroversion and low scores of Neuroticism and Ychoticism would experience greater subjective well-being.3. The subjective well-being of the music learning elderly is mainly positive emotion.Learning music plays a part in life satisfaction, positive emotion and negative emotion.4. For the elderly, learning music will help mold positive character traits, satisfy all levels of mental needs, actualize their own personal worth and increase psychological well-being(PWB).Learning music is a significant factor that influences the psychological well-being of the old people.5. As the time for music learning increases, the levels of subjective well-being and psychological well-being rise.
