The Research Of Butterfly Ornamentation Of The Miao Nationality In Qiandongnan Area

The Miao Nationality is a minority only has speaking language but no written words. They record and inherit cultural information by clothes and formative arts of the decorations. Therefore, the costume of Miao is called “wearing history”. The butterfly ornamentation is the one of the typical decorations in Qiandongnan area, it presents miao people’s beautiful life expectation. This article aims to research and collect the butterfly ornamentation in Qiandongnan systematically.This assignment based on fieldwork, local crafters’ interview and relative literature review, summarized the cultural context of the Miao Nationality in Qiandongnan and the importance of butterfly decoration in this area. According to the classified study on different shapes and patterns of butterfly in embroidery, batik and silver jewellery in Qiandongnan, this study sumped up the formal features and application of colour of butterfly ornamentation, extracted the equality of life and the perception of life in the culture of the Miao nationality from the their cultural background. At the same time,through combing the butterfly ornamentation with different cultural categories on procreation worship, totem worship and wunuo culture to analyze the case study, also looking for the root cultural of Miao Nationality in butterfly ornamentation. After all,the author discussed the esthetical analysis of the artistic charm and hackled the aesthetic regulation of natural beauty, formal beauty, national ecological beauty, the everlasting beauty in butterfly ornamentation. In the end, the author presented suggestion of how to solve inherit and development problem of current situation within butterfly decorations.On that account, this article researched the butterfly ornamentation systematically though specific case-study to display the humanistic feelings and brilliant minority culture and conveyed artistic connotation and essence in Qiandongnan area.
