Food safety has been a hot topic worldwide in recent years, for it is closely linked with more stringent requirements. This translation project was based on the translation practice of Chapter 24 in The Oxford Handbook of Food, Politics, and Society, which was newly published by Oxford University Press in 2015. The source text mainly makes a detailed description on the short history of recombinant DNA in food crops, definition and controversy of GM crop, real problems of food safety and the safety evaluation. At the same time, it explores the rat studies and tells us the interrelation between media and manipulation. The paper puts forward views on food safety, which provides the important advices for food safety regulation system in China. Readers could learn more objective and scientific knowledge about food additives, food labels, organic food and genetically modified food.This translation report is divided into five parts:Part One is the introduction. Part Two is the translation project compendium. Part Three is an analysis of the source text. Part Four is about translation strategies and difficulties. Part Five concludes with the experience and lessons on the translation practice. The analysis of the source text is an important part which includes the analysis of the text types and the text features. The main contents of this report are difficult points and strategies in translation process. There are a lot of headlines, professional terms, long and difficult sentences. Therefore, the selected chapter is analyzed with the help of some translation strategies from lexical, grammatical, syntactic and textual aspects respectively. Various translation techniques such as sequential method, division method, combination method, inversion method and the synthetic method are employed. The techniques of the scientific academic papers translation are discussed.
