| Food safety is the basic guarantee for human health and life, and it is closely related to economic development and social stability.Nowadays, the economy has already developed rapidly, and a large number of different kinds of food are becoming available. At the same time, the appearance of food safety incidents is brought into sharp focus. At present,a lot of literature introduces food safety and disease prevention knowledge in China, but relatively few of them present professional knowledge and detection technology in the field of food safety. On the contrary, there are many documents in this field abroad. Therefore, the author will extract three chapters in the foreign book Food Safety in the 21 st Century Public Health Perspective as material, translating it and researching on the whole translation practice. With Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation as the theoretical basis, the paper demonstrates the actual embodiment at lexical and syntactic levels from three perspectives: semantic translation, communicative translation, and integrating two theories.According to semantic translation, the author contends that literal translation strategy and linear translation method are employed to resolve translation difficulties of abbreviations and the sentences that contain terminologies.Under the guidance of communicative translation, voice conversion, division, and sentence reorganization translation techniques are leveraged together to tackle translation barriers of long and complex sentences.Besides, the table will be translated under the guidance of the combination of semantic translation and communicative translation.Through this translation practice, the translation skills of the author are improved a lot;the translated text also expands the application of Newmark’s translation theory in the field of food safety, which could provide a reference for future translation of food safety. The translated text could enable consumers to further understand professional food safety knowledge, which is of great significance for people to avoid the occurrence of food security incidents. |
