On May 19th,2014, the author undertook an interpreting practice in the South Australia-Shandong Investment Promotion Seminar. In the Seminar, the author worked as an interpreter for a delegate from Zero Waste SA.The report is based on the interpreting practice and divided into five chapters. Chapter One gives a brief introduction of the task including task description and project description. Chapter Two is the theoretical framework of the report and it elaborates on the features of conference interpreting and briefly introduces the definition and development of the Interpretive Theory and the theoretical basis of the report. Chapter Three discusses three application of the Theory in this interpreting practice and puts forward tactics (i.e. making proper predictions, paraphrasing new words and adjusting orders and contents) to deal with specific situations. Chapter Four points out common problems encountered and provides with solutions found out in the Seminar. Chapter Five is about the feedback from clients and the author’s self-reflection. After the Seminar, the author made a summary of the interpreting experience and learned many useful vocabularies and practical interpreting tactics from it, which will surely benefit her future interpreting activities.In the conclusion part, many rewarding results of the interpreting practice, the weaknesses in this report and some suggestions for future interpreting studies are provided.
