Nid’s dynamic equivalent theory caused great attention since the advent of it athome and abroad.Since then it enables Chinese translators to study translation in anew perspective, and there has been a situation of taking it as bible in translationstudies. Every time when mentioning Nida’s translation theory, many of the translatorsmust refer to Nida’s Dynamic Theory. Most of them took Nida’s DynamicEquivalence as动态对等,which can be seen in some articles and in some chapters ofwritings. The author believes that the Nida’s Dynamic Equivalence interpreted as动态对in Chinese translation circles is a mistranslation, and the correct and reasonableunderstanding of it is动力相当.In fact,Dynamic Equivalence(译为动态对等)advocated by many scholars is Nida’s false translation theory, and the correct theory isDynamic Equivalence(译为动力相当).Mechanical engineering, as a new realm in our lives,is gradually emerging withthe rapid development of economy and science and technology. Moreover,as a newform of translation, mechanical engineering translation is still in its infancy andurgently needs to have a systematic and theoretical guidance for its translation.Nowthere are a great number of studies on Mechanical Engineering translation at home, butmost of them just appeared in the writings of some chapters.Next about the structure of this thesis, first it makes a brief introduction ofMechanical Engineer studies and Nida’s Dynamic Equivalence. Then it analysesNida’s Dynamic Equivalence Theory and the characteristics of MechanicalEngineering.Next, based on the practice of ten thousand words translation onMechanical Engineering, the thesis discusses the feasibility of Nida’s DynamicEquivalence Theory in Mechanical Engineering translation, and it proves that thetranslation can achieve Dynamic Equivalence in vocabularies, syntax and rhetoric inMechanical Engineering translation. Finally, the author concludes Nida’s DynamicEquivalence Theory can be used to guide Mechanical Engineering translation feasiblyand valuably. The author of this thesis hopes this study will help us better understanding andapplication of Nida’s Dynamic Equivalence Theory, and it will help to improveMechanical Engineering translation practice.
