Gesture is recognized as an effective means for teachers to pass information to students and enhance language expression effects in the teaching Chinese as Foreign Language (TCFL) class. It plays an considerable role in helping students understand and memory, promoting the teaching quality and many other aspects, which directly affects the effects of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Teachers in teaching Chinese as a foreign language often see the gesture as an effective medium of expression in the classroom for clear meaning and smooth communication.This paper uses the method of observation, questionnaire survey and interview and other research methods, discussing situation where teachers use gestures in the class of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. I hope the potential of the gestures in the Chinese as a foreign language classroom can be further digged and I can put forward more targeted suggestions for teachers of Chinese as a foreign language.In the second chapter, I introduce some high frequency signal occurred in the Chinese as a foreign language class, analyze the current situation of gesture use, and refine the characteristics of gestures in three aspects, which are unity and differentiation, the whole and the part, accompany and independence.finally,I summarize the founctions of teacher’ gesture in Chinese as a foreign language classroom. It assists teachers to transmiss information, attract attention of students, promote the communication between teachers and students and regulate classroom teaching, etc.In the third chapter, I designe questionnaire and survey 50 students about their attitude towards teachers’ gestures using in the class, interview nine teachers of Chinese as a foreign language about his(her) own use of gestures in the class. Then I comparatively analysis the difference between the investigation results and the interview results, discuss the reason from training efforts and using consciousness these two aspects and point out some attentions that the teacher of Chinese as a foreign language need to follow when using gestures.In the forth chapter, I put forward some constructive opinions and suggestions combining with survey results.In the fifth chapter, I sum up the whole papers, introduce the research achievements and the further prospect of the work in the future. In the end, I state briefly shortcomings based on the study of teacher’s gesture using in the teaching Chinese as a foreign language class.
