Taking the "Journey to the Wes"mural of the Milne Tongzi Temple as the study object,the murals, lite ratures and picture-story books of "journey to the west" in the Hexi Corridor as the main materials, by comparing the related-data, the analysis and induction of the reason for the appearance in Tongzi Temple, the generation period and the characteristics of "Journey to the West"murals, the basic situation and relationship of the folk belief in the local people at that period are shown, and the spiritual life of the local people is discussed.This paper study the culture background of the "journey to the west" murals in He xi Corridor, from the early minority native culture to the eastward Buddhist culture fr om the West; the eastward Tibetan culture, the southward northern Mongolian and Tur kic culture; and the westward Eastern Han Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism cultu re, and the fusion process of the domestic and Western culture in the Hexi Corridor, e xplain the cultural background of the "journey to the west" murals, and make a descri ptive study for the political background for the "Tongzi" Temple Grottoes. In addition, the function change and economic factors as the temple transitted from the official to private from the Qing Dynasty, and the geographic environment and society of Minle, where the "Tongzi" temple is located, are studied. From these analysis, the conclusio n that, the "journey to the west" murals in the "Tongzi" Temple in Minle is the product of the cultural exchange between China and the west, the fusion of the Han culture an d the minority cultures and popular culture driven byt the economic factors, is made.
