A Report On Chinese-english Translation Of 2013 Sichuan Yearbook

With China’s extensive exchange with the outside world, there is an increasingly keen interest from the international communities to learn more about China and China is also eager to make herself more clear to the westerners. Based on this background, the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government actively respond to the “go global” strategy of central government. As a comprehensive annual to record the progress and main events of Sichuan Province accurately and systematically, 2013 Sichuan Yearbook aims to provide reference for the leading departments at all levels to make decisions and development plans, to provide new information for scientific research and teaching work, authoritative information on investment, trade and business services and reference for the domestic and foreign people from all walks of life to understand and study Sichuan and also to promote their exchanges and cooperation with Sichuan. There is no English version for this kind of yearbook English before this rendition. This is a translation project report on some parts entitled The Comprehensive Transportation Junction Construction in the West Region, Key Project Construction, Business Trade and Commerce Circulation, Liquor Industry, Catering Industry, Logistics Industry, Insurance Industry, High and New Technology and the Industrialization, The Development of Innovative Companies, The Development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Radio, Film and Television from the chapter 3 “The Economy and Society” of the yearbook. Based on the Newmark’s text-category and his semantic and communicative translation and also guided by the functionalist translation theory especially the Skopostheory, the writer 000 lists some translation examples and strategies, hoping to provide some reference for the rendering of the same category.
