Skopos theory appeared in the 1970 s, which applies the conception of “skopos” to translation theories. Its core point is that the end justifies the means.Culture-loaded words contain rich cultural connotations and features, which are the most distinctive part of every culture. As a classical Chinese myth novel, Xi Youji contains a large number of culture-loaded words. A successful translation of the culture-loaded words helps to spread Chinese unique culture to the world. Basing on Nida’s classification of culture, the author classifies culture-loaded words in Xi Youji into five typesand carefully analyzes the translation of the culture-loaded words in Jenner’s Journey to the Westfrom the perspective of skopos theory. Then the author mainly summarizes the translation methods used by Jenner and the purposes he tried to achieve. The author has found that Jenner translated with a skopos of introducing the original Chinese culture to the target readers in his Journey to the West, so he mainly adopted literal translation method for translating the culture-loaded words in Xi Youji. At the same time, taking the acceptabilityand the readability of the target readers into consideration, he also applied other translation methods, which are freetranslation, transliteration, addition, omission, substitution and so on.
