This is a report on the interpreting, with Upclose: Jet Li, an interview of CCTV9,serving as research example. In the report, the author makes a brief introduction on the background, task, and process of interpreting, emphasizing the theoretical guidance and reference of functional equivalence on interpreting with specific examples. By probing into the dynamic relationship among the speaker, intention of the speaker, interpreter and audience, and by analyzing gains and losses of semantics in the process of interpreting, the author draws the conclusion that the quality of interpreting can be defined by whether the reaction of the target language listener is consistent with the expectation of the source language speaker or whether the reaction identifies with that of source language listener.
