Xinjiang From The View Of Tianshan Monthly

During the time of Republic of China(1912-1949),Xinjiang, served as the strategic place in Northwest frontier region of China, went through a harder boarder crisis. On the background of ’Northwest Exploitation’, Xinjiang gradually aroused the public attention, based on which Tianshan Monthly was founded. The Tianshan Monthly, a comprehensive publication with its focus on the report and research of Xinjiang, acts as a medium which prompts the Northwest China to go public, establishes a closer relationship between Xinjiang and the rest part of China, and becomes an important window for the public in the country to know Xinjiang through the reports about the place.Laying emphasis on Tianshan Monthly, the paper studies the current situation of development of Xinjiang in the field of geography, history, politics, economy, culture,national religion, education, foreign exchange during 1930 s to 1940 s, and discusses the suggestions from Tianshan Monthly on further development of Xinjiang in transportation, immigration, opening up, and self-dependence, which remains important even today. Furthermore, the paper analyzes the scope and viewpoint taken by Tianshan Monthly, the relationship between groups of authors, readers and Tianshan Monthly, as well as the similarities and differences between Xinjiang described in Tianshan Monthly and that of other magazines, so as to analyzes the attention of Tianshan Monthly on Xinjiang.
