A World Class Education is authored by Vivian Stewart, an experienced educator, who once served as the vice president of Asia Society. In the time of globalization and global knowledge economy, competition among educated people, in which education played a crucial role, becomes increasingly intense. In view of this incoming change, Stewart, in her book A World Class Education, started an in-depth analysis of the education models and progresses in countries and regions like Australia, Singapore, Finland, and Shanghai, etc. She has widely and thoroughly discussed topics like education policies, curriculum, assessment, effective teachers, and common elements of successful education systems, all of which are greatly instructive to educators and readers alike, especially in deepening their understanding of the frontiers of education and the mechanism of successful education systems.The book is composed of six chapters. The author of this report has contributed to the translation of the third, the fifth and the sixth chapters. This report, based on the translation of the sixth chapter, mainly includes five sections. In the first section, the author gives a detailed introduction over the background of this translation program, the requirements of the publisher, and the textual features of the original text. In the second section, the author gives a faithful description of the translation process, especially of the challenges encountered in the translation process and of the solution to these problems and challenges. In the third section, the author gives an introduction of the translation theory applied in the translation process, that is, Functionalist Skopos Theory. In the fourth section, the author,in line with the Functionalist Skopos Theory, elucidates on how and why specific translation strategies, methods, and techniques are applied in the process of translation. In the fifth section, the author gives a final conclusion of the overall translation process, and shares with readers his own experience. In addition, the non-literary nature of the original text makes it suitable for the application of Functionalist Skopos Theory as non-literary translation is more purposeful compared with literary translation. This view is reasonably demonstrated throughout the report.
