Small group teaching model is the population as a basis, in accordance with the different conditions of students within the class is divided into a number of teams, so that can help each other, compete with each other, and common progress between the groups. And the ability of the teacher’s help, to set their own learning goals, achieve their goals and in the process of cognition itself a teaching mode and evaluation. So that they can fully play the guiding role of the teacher and the students ’own initiative, the ability to enhance students’ comprehensive interpersonal, team and other aspects of adaptation. The collection sports sports dance, music and dance in one of the emerging sports fitness and entertainment in the form of a double movement or teamwork to complete. Based on the characteristics of the course Sports Dance, Dance Sport in teaching activities, exchanges and cooperation as a guiding principle should be more throughout. Therefore, the application of small group teaching model in College Sports Dance Teaching help improve students’ dance skills and teamwork spirit of cooperation and competition. Universities that platform by means of a good physical education, improve the quality of teaching dance classes, teaching mode of physical dance, promote student skills, the ability to enhance cooperation, while the essence of this spirit into the daily physical activity in, is currently theorists and educational problems to be solved.In this paper, literature, questionnaire, expert interviews, teaching experiments and other research methods, small group teaching model in College Sports Dance Elective Course teaching in Xi’an Institute of Physical Education conducted 36 hours of teaching experiments, collected data before the experiment and after the experiment the experimental and control groups, and its statistics, comparison, analysis and consolidation.The results show that: 1, the application of small group teaching model in College Sports Dance Elective Education has positive significance to the achievement of the objectives of classroom teaching; 2, application of small group teaching model in college sports dance elective course teaching, teachers and students of exchange and interaction among team members between the growing, can effectively promote students ’interpersonal skills; 3, teaching small group teaching mode can effectively improve students’ Sports dance liking, students Sports dance increased enthusiasm for teaching content have a strong interest in improving participation in sports activities, dance, more students are willing to dance in after-school sports practice; 4, students help each other in small groups in the teaching model of learning from each other competition, improve the students’ enthusiasm for learning, improve student sports dance class technical achievement of great help; 5, study group members have a common goal, while regular exchanges between groups contest, interpersonal interaction, encourage group members to learn together, common progress, easy to enhance students’ ability to cooperate group; 6, with respect to the traditional sports teaching mode, students higher degree of recognition of the effect of small group teaching mode.
