The civil service system is an important part of modern political system. With the functions ofevaluation, management, incentive and supervision, the civil service examination is the core andfoundation of civil servants management which directly relate to the healthy development of the civilservice and the unceasing enhancement of administrative ability. The civil service examination playsan irreplaceable role in modern personnel administration. At present, China is in the period ofreformation and innovation while the civil service system is at the starting stage. Because of the lackof relevant theory and experience, there are some problems with the system itself and its applicationmethod. While the developed countries like UK, America and Japan have put forward advancedconcept in the civil service examination and accumulated rich experience in the specific operationafter several years of practice. Therefore, it is helpful to promote the perfection of the civil serviceexamination system of China and has a positive significance for the development of civil servicesystem with Chinese characteristics through the investigation and study of the civil serviceexamination system in developed countries. This paper will point out the existing problems of thecivil service examination system of China by introduce the concept, review the development courseand analysis the current status from the civil service examination system angle. At the same time,make a comparative study, learn from the developed countries and make some improvement to thecivil service examination system of China to improve the effectiveness of the civil serviceexamination system, and then help to promote the socialist modernization road and build aharmonious society.
