Identity, a highly frequently used word in current academic world, caused activediscussion by scholars from different fields. It is necessary and beneficial to introducethe word “identity” into ideological and political education. This study will help totestify the rationality of ideological and political education, cultivate talents withsound personality, and improve the effectiveness of ideological and political work.As a field to which scholars pay less attention, the identity of ideological andpolitical education is essentially a constructive process for the multitude’s approvaland acceptance. Identifying the social leading values is the biggest difference betweenthe identity of ideological and political education and the identities of other subjects.It shows characteristics like initiative, integration of choice, repeatability. Althoughthe object of ideological and political education is a very complex system, whichcontains the subject of ideological and political education, the contents of ideologicaland political education, the methods of ideological and political education, theactivities of ideological and political education, the effects of ideological and politicaleducation and so on. The most significant thing is to enhance and achieve the identityof ideological and political education in the aspects of subject, contents and methods.After all, subject, contents and methods are the main frame of ideological andpolitical education. Promoting the identity of ideological and political education in thefields of subjects, contents and methods means grasp the general frame of ideologicaland political education from macroscopic aspect.As an emerging subject, ideological and political education is accompanied bythe construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the great practice ofreform and opening up. It has special objects of study, unique traits of subject,relatively mature theory system. Identifying the subject of ideological and politicaleducation equals to identify its reasonable position. However, in the new historicalconditions, the subject of ideological and political education encounters identity crises,mainly show in these aspects: people cannot clearly grasp the meaning of the subjectof ideological and political education, the degree of discipline consciousness is nothigh, and the enforcement of discipline construction is not enough. Therefore,defining the meaning of the subject of ideological and political education and findingthe fixed position of this subject, paying attention to personnel training andconstructing the echelon of this subject, promoting academic thinking and strengthening scientific research, are all good measures, which need ideological andpolitical education workers to consider first.The contents of ideological and political education are those ideological andpolitical ideas and the value of moral norms which educators are trying to transfer tothe uneducated in the activities of ideological and political education. They areinformation link between the uneducated and educators, and are also a fundamentalfactor of ideological and political education system. But the contents of ideologicaland political education are encountering identity crises, mainly containing thecontamination of negative social factors, the lash of multiple social thought, theinfluence of being stressed ideology. Thus, exploring optimal measures is imperative.These measures include demonstrating and enhancing the rationality, truth andtolerance of the contents of ideological and political education.The methods of ideological and political education are like bridges that havebeen set up between the educated and educators, which help to achieve the goal ofideological and political education and fulfill the task of ideological and politicaleducation. Those methods are correct and practical. They fit in with the needs of theeducated, and ensure the realization of education’s purpose. Identifying the methodsof ideological and political education equals to identify its availability. Unfortunately,the methods of ideological and political education cannot escape from the fate ofbeing mauled and suspected. Generally speaking, the identity crises of the methods ofideological and political education mainly include: the humanistic concern has yet tobe improved; the inclination of formalization is comparatively prominent; the featuresof synthesis are not obvious. Therefore, the social reality calls for the improvementand enrichment of the methods of ideological and political education. The followingare effective measures: strengthen humanistic care and psychological counseling;improve the effectiveness and pertinence; pay close attention to the art of methods toenhance the synthesis of ideological and political education.The identity of ideological and political education is interlinked with the processof ideological and political education. They belong to a kind of activity with the sameaim. Furthermore, the identity of ideological and political education is an importantlink in the process of ideological and political education activities, which has keysignificance to achieving good effects. Without it, the development of ideological andpolitical education will be hampered; the whole process of ideological and politicaleducation will be in danger like a building without good foundations. Thus, the sustainable development of ideological and political education needs the identity ofideological and political education.
