With China’s joining WTO and the advent of the era ofknowledge economy, the protection of intellectual propertyrights has become increasingly important. The need forpersonnel, especially the seniors that have the talents ofpractical ability in protecting intellectual property rights,is on the rise with each passing day. The quality of thecurriculum in our country will directly influence the nurtureof them. However, the courses of many colleges in China haveplaced great importance on the teaching of theoreticalknowledge about intellectual property law, but ignored thefostering of students’ practical abilities. The applicationof clinical legal education can improve students’ competencein analyzing and solving practical problems and promote theirprofessional ethics. The present study researches theapplication of clinical teaching method in the education ofintellectual property law from the following aspects. First,it briefly introduces clinical teaching method. Second, theprimary coverage and features of the curriculum on intellectualproperty laws are presented and discussed. Based on the factthat there are still problems in the teaching of intellectual property law, it discusses the bases of the clinical teachingmethod and its effects. Third, it explores the specificimplement conditions, contents and ways of assessment for thismethod in teaching. Finally, the study analyzes the problemsthat will frequently come out when the aforementioned methodis applied to the teaching processes of intellectual propertylaw, and then proposes corresponding solutions.
