A Research On Rising And Development Of Migrant Workers’ Self-organization

As we continuously and deeply move on Urbanization in China, people’s urbanization is upgraded to a higher level. Migrant workers from rural area, the main part of population mobility between city and countryside, should deserve more attention from authority. It is very hard for migrant workers to enjoy the same public services and political rights as city residents do, since they were treated as temporary residents in city during a very long time. Generally, in order to obtain the basic resource and information for living in city, most of Migrant workers will seek help from their relatives or people from the same place with them, the group of individuals with close relationship with each other in our traditional social structure. The social network Base on kin and Geopolitical relations was composed of the primal social capital for migrant workers while they firstly step into city, and very few migrant workers could come and live in city with complete isolation from this kind social network, which mostly bring out social parties for migrant workers.This article is to research self-organization from angle of social capital, through analysis of its problems, discuss meanings of individual social capital to the organization and its functions to restructure the social capital for migrant workers as individual, and then find out possible way for migrant workers’ self-organization to get rid of its difficult situation. The purpose of this article is to figure out dominant strategy for migrant workers’self-organization to utilize its social capital, forward related suggestions to government to bring the increment of migrant workers social capital, and change its status as the weakness in our society. Moreover, migrant workers’ self-organization could be regarded as one kind of social capital, the research to its rise and development is taken as a distribution to the growth of civil society in China.Base on the reference of related research in china and overseas, this article takes a synthetic research on startup and development of migrant workers’ self-organization from the angle of social capital theory, through research method of literature, interview and questionnaire.This article is composed of five sections. The first section is a guideline, describing the background and meaning of this research, current situation of related research in china and overseas, the theory, method and innovative point of this research. The second section is definition of related theory, firstly to introduce related theory of social capital, and then to explain the paraphrase of migrant workers’ self-organization and characters of its social capital; In the third section, it introduces the motivation for migrant workers’ self-organization to startup and its difficult situation, analyses through3 aspects of social capital:systematical social capital, organizational social capital and individual relational social capital. The forth section make a very good foundation in theory to search out development path for self-organization, through analysis of interaction of migrant workers’ self-organization, as organizational social capital, with other social capitals. The fifth section indicate how to make good use of social capital.The innovative parts of this article:The first part is the creation on topic and opinion. Comparatively few literatures could be referenced for the research on migrant workers’ self-organization, as Urbanization moving on, topics such as migrant workers’civil society must be concerned more and more in future by academy. The second part is the creation on research angle. Currently most research to self-organization is from angle of political or managerial science, however, there are very few compositions which do research on migrant workers development path from angle of social capital. The third part is to creatively make integration for several branches of social capital theory, and discuss the interaction and operation status of social capital for migrant workers’ self-organization from several different aspects.
