The Cultural Self-awareness Of Communist Party Of China During The Period Of Yan’an

Communist Party of China brought forward the unprecedented proposal to develop a high degree of Cultural Self-awareness, Cultural Self-confidence and build a socialist country with cultural power at its17th Central Committee. Furthermore, the18th CPC National Congress made a categorical purpose and direction about Cultural Self-awareness. Although the time of proposing the conception of Cultural Self-awareness by CPC is not long, the consciousness of the Cultural Self-awareness in the practice of CPC has a long history. Throughout the history of CPC, all generations have constantly worked hard for the exploration of Culture Construction and pursuit of advanced culture, which reflects the continuous improvement of Cultural Self-awareness.The period of Yan’an is an important stage in the history of CPC. In order to solve the "cultural wasteland" of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Boarder Region, boycott the cultural offensives of KMT, consolidate the bedrock of the democratic regime, and lead the new democratic revolution of China, CPC make great efforts in the theory construction and practice exploration on the basis of the reality of Chinese revolution and needs from Chinese nation. All proves the high level of Cultural Self-awareness.The essence of Cultural Self-awareness is the conscious action to recognize the culture. During the period of Yan’an, CPC conducted in-depth excavation and research of the Chinese traditional culture and foreign culture, then analyzed and evaluated them with Materialism, and finally put out the new democratic culture which explained the connotation and function of the Chinese new culture. With the theoretical innovation, CPC also launched a large-scale cultural construction in Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Boarder Region:guiding the growth of literature and art, researching the social science and natural science, popularizing education and improving the health service. All of these actions not only changed the Boarder Region’s backward culture, expanded the governance legitimacy foundation of CPC, but also maintained the unity of the anti-Japanese national united front and promoted the victory of the anti-Japanese war.This paper used the principles of Marxism, literature research and historical analysis to make an in-depth study of Cultural Self-awareness of CPC during the period of Yan’an. And through the objective evaluation to its achievements and limitation, the paper is aimed to give some enlightenment to the CPC’s construction of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics.
