The growing number of elderly people in the population is a world-wide phenomenon. The proportion of the elderly in the population in1950is8%and10%in2000, it is predicted to reach21%in2050. For the time being, China is entering into the era of "Grey-ing" society with the situation that the economy in China is not very developed. Hence, China, in the process of aging population, is under the pressure to promote the sustainable development of the society and the well-being of thousands of millions of the elderly. In the same extent of aging population, the situation that China is encountering is more severe. Of course, Sweden, being a small country with barely9million inhabitants, is no exception from the overall demographic trends. Today, Sweden has the oldest population in the world, and it also has developed the complete welfare system for the elderly, and then has become a typical case of welfare states, owing to its advanced and completed welfare policy and services, and new form of elderly care---privatization came into being in1970s. Studying the Swedish elderly care privatization may give China some beneficial inspirations in constructing its own elderly care system. The paper is divided into four sections. In the first part, I give a brief historical account of the development of privatization of elderly care in Sweden, which came to be dominated by public providers during the postwar era. The second section describes, in detail, the statement of fields and models in the privatization of elderly care. And in the third section, there is a description of the legislations about the privatization of elderly care in Sweden. Through the informal interview, the assessment of effectiveness of private elderly care is given and analyzed from advantages and disadvantages. Finally, I summarize the changes that have taken place, and some beneficial inspirations for the constructions of Chinese elderly care system will be got under the different situations of two country.
