The Rules for Students was written in the Qing Dynasty by LiYuxiu who was a tutor of a private school. It is brief with concise langue and common contents. It inherits the Confucian’s intellectual tradition of Filial Piety and integrity which was widely adopted by the textbooks of Qing Dynasty.The Rules for Students begins with Chapter6of the Analects(Xue Er)"The students should firstly be filial to parents, show respect to brothers, speak with caution honest, love the others, and close to the persons of great virtue. If they still have spare capacities, they may learn cultural knowledge." and converts the Confucian’s thought of traditional Filial Piety, caution honest and universal love and learning spirit to the specific rules for action, which can guide the students to self-cultivation and to fulfill their duties. This essay contains enriched thoughts of moral education which has significant influence and irreplaceable value for the societies whether of that time or modern time.In recent years, our country has set off an upsurge of returning back to traditional Chinese culture, and more and more people realize that traditional Chinese culture endures and remains fresh. is learning Confucian classics-the significance of The Rules for Students is increasing. As for education, many schools contain it in and outside class; in the society, many companies and public institutions use The Rules for Students to train employees and promote corporate culture; as for academics, many scholars are discussing the contemporary value of it while studies from the aspect of moral education is not much.Based on the content above and guided by the principles of dialectical materialism and historical materialism of Marxism, this essay uses the methods of literature review, comparative study and dialectical analysis to discuss the moral thoughts of The Rules for Students in detail. This paper summarizes the written background of The Rules for Students, the author’s life and theoretical origin; sorts out and analyzes the the basic system of moral education lying in The Rules for Students from three aspects which are the goal, the contents and the methods of moral cultivation; digs out and elaborates the value and enlightenment for modern moral education contained in the Rules for Students. In the end, it concludes that the Rules for Students is the epitome of the excellent Chinese tradition and also precious cultural resources for modern teenager moral education. It still have guiding significance for modern society.
