Investigation On The Sustainable Livelihoods Of Eco-poor

Achieving a harmonious and sustainable development is the most significant goal ofChina in current stage, and if we want to get it, first we need to emphasis on how to narrowthe gap between the rich and the poor and how to increase the efforts which focus on helpingthe social vulnerable groups. At present, China has a quite part of the social vulnerable groupsand their situation of survival and development, to a large extent, affected the orderly andsustainable development of the society as a whole. Eco-poor, as a kind of new socialvulnerable groups, choose to protect the ecological environment at the price of lose their ownbasic survival resources, which make their ability of sustainable livelihoods become moreweaken. At the same time, the corresponding social security mechanism is relativelyimperfect, hence leads to the increase of the potential social contradiction. In addition, asChina’s economy goes on developing, the public’s awareness of protecting the socialenvironment also gradually enhanced, which make the quantity of the Eco-poor larger,objectively. Therefore, how to solve the Eco-poor’s compensation and security issuesproperly, how to ensure the Eco-poor’s own sustainable livelihoods development, how topromise Eco-poor’s legitimate rights and how to promote the balanced development betweendifferent regions are the problems that China need to solve during its process of sustainabledevelopment.The sustainable livelihoods provide a new perspective to observe and research socialvulnerable group sustainable livelihood problems. This research takes Eco-poor who areliving in Qinling mountains as objects, and analyzes a series of problems that Eco-poor has atthis stage. What’s the living condition of the Eco-poor? What’s the differences of living leveland living methods before and after they became Eco-poor? What are the main reasons ofsuch changes? How to address the adverse impacts that he national reserve construction andother relevant policies made effectively? Actually, this research is mainly carried out bythinking of these problems. This research mainly uses the questionnaire method to investigate the current situation ofEco-poor’s sustainable livelihood, their basic problems and reasons. At the same time, alsopoint out the achievements and the deficiencies in this research field by reading both domesticand abroad literatures. The research also based on the sustainable development andsustainable livelihood theories as the basic theoretical basis, and integrated use of analogy andcase study analysis to analyze the mode of basic compensation and social security whichmainly focus on the social vulnerable groups, in order to build the basic model of socialsecurity and compensation for Eco-poor. At the same time, this research also proposes thehypothesis of factors that may influence the Eco-poor to achieve their own sustainablelivelihoods, and uses the collection data to do the SPSS factor analysis, correlation analysisand regression analysis, and also build the basic theory mode, in order to propose the targetedsuggestions and opinions from a height of theory combined with practical, and then promotethe Eco-poor people who are living in Qinling mountain to achieve their own sustainablelivelihoods effectively.
