The Political Function Of The Socialist Concept Of Honor And Disgrace

With Comrade Hu Jintao’s "Eight Honors and Eight Disgraces" as the main content,while absorbing the essence of the Chinese traditional culture and the Western culture,the socialist concept of honor and disgrace has become one of the latest theoreticalresults in Chinese Marxism. The socialist concept of honor and disgrace as a socialistcore value system is one of the important components; it is the embodiment ofscientific development view and harmonious society, and it is also the organic unityof the socialist morality, ethics, political views and values. The socialist conceptof honor and disgrace has three political functions. First, the political function---the ethics of the socialist concept of honor and disgrace guide people to keep tothe socialist road; its class nature guides people to uphold the people’s democraticdictatorship; its contemporaneity guides people to adhere to scientific developmentview; and its dialectics guides people to adhere to the construction of socialistharmonious culture. Second, the political security function---socialist concept ofhonor and disgrace provides legal protection for "rule by law", mass guarantee for“rule by virtue”, and self-discipline security for “anti-corruption”. Third, thepolitical education function---socialist concept of honor and disgrace is thefoundation of political education. Its ethical education and political education cannot replace each other.It is significant to practice the socialist concept of honorand disgrace.We should combine the education of socialist concept of honor anddisgrace and the party’s style construction together, combine the socialist conceptof honor and disgrace education and the school ideological and political educationtogether.
