Chinese ethnic social work is originated from 1920s to 1940s. After western social work was introduced into China, Yanjing university set up a new course, which named "race relationship". It is the beginning of Chinese ethnic social work of higher education. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, social work was canceled. Until the mid-1980s, with Beijing university social work major, many universities have also set up this major. After Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, ethnic social work has gained rapidly development. Moreover, with the central government’s assistant in Xinjiang, the ethnic social work began to get development in Xinjiang. Nowadays, the localization of social work and the ethnic problem has became more and more important, our ethnic social work also has began new practice and development. All in all just like Wang Sibin said, Chinese ethnic work is still in its infancy.This thesis surveyed ethnic social work practice and the employment rate of social work students through not only the higher education, but also policies,NGOs, and communities. Taking "Xinjiang social support and service of migrating minority children project" as an example,this thesis describes the whole process of Xinjiang ethnic social work practice with participated investigation, and analysis the situation and difficulties of Xinjiang ethnic social work education and practice.In this article, the author surveyed Xinjiang ethnic social work policies, social work practices and education development through interviews, and then analysed the xinjiang ethnic social work education and employment problems. The author found out that Xinjiang ethnic social work has certain development in policies support, college education, institutions, and ethnic community work. At the same time,there are also a lot of problems, such as academic education and continuing education are lack of the attention, the number of ethnic social work students less and lost more and less social work practitioners in ethnic regions, etc.Through participated investigation,interview and case study of "Xinjiang social support and service of migrating minority children project",the author found that language differences are the biggest obstacles for ethnic social work, cultural differences lead to the difficulties of home visiting. Besides that,the author also found that the ethnic social workers are minority,but they play the main role on social work.Based on the analysis of Xinjiang social work education, employment rate,organizations’ development and social work practice, the author puts forward some corresponding countermeasures and suggestions. Firstly,ethnic areas should further develop school record education and continuing education of ethnic social work,expand the ethnic social work enrollment,add ethnic social work courses, train ethnic social work teachers,pay more attention to ethnic social work practice and strengthen the communication among universities. Secondly, government should build a social work education system and pay attention to support related researches for attracting more social workers.This paper studies the Xinjiang ethnic social work development situation from ethnic social work practice, which is an exploration and attempt in topic selection and practice exploration. This paper also enriches the ethnic social work and social work localization researches and helps to solve many problems,such as protection of ethnic areas’traditional culture, social work education and mass incidents. All of these will contribute to promote the development of the ethnic community, establish a good relationship with ethnic people and consolidate the stability of the ethnic minority areas.
